Welcome to Transition Bramcote and Wollaton
We are a group of local people who have come together with the aim of raising awareness about climate change and peak oil, and to co-ordinate the transition of our community to one that is less dependent on fossil fuels.
We are part of Transition Nottingham, one of the UK's first Transition Cities. The Transition movement now encompasses over 90 intiatives across the UK and now spreading to the US, Australia and Japan. For more information on the transition Network click here. Together we're asking questions such as: 'Wouldn’t you like to live in a strong and vibrant local community resilient to the challenges of adjusting to a low fossil food economy? Would you like to eat locally grown, healthy and tasty food? Have safer, more child friendly streets, with shared open spaces, more greenery and great local entertainment? Would you like to improve your health and well-being while getting to know your neighbours and see less of your money disappearing into the profits of faceless corporations?'
We hope to answer these questions by inspiring the residents of Bramcote and Wolllaton to work together to build a more resilient future by doing more on a local level - sharing skills, knowledge and resources for the benefit of us all. Ultimately our aim is to formulate an Energy Descent Pathway - a way of planning to reduce oil dependence whilst reinvigorating our local community and sense of well-being.

We don't just want to have boring meetings, or sit around and talk about the problems. We have lots of exciting events planned - to find out what's happening, visit the Events page.
One of the most important things we can do to reduce our comsumption of fossil fuels is to grow more of our own food. For this reason we have started the Transition Bramcote and Wollaton Community Allotment. If you would like to see how we're getting on, go to the Community Allotment page.
Why do we need a Transition to a low fossil fuel community?
Our world is facing 2 serious problems that threaten catastrophe. We must drastically reduce our use of fossil fuels in order to avoid dangerous global warming. We are also rapidly approaching the end of the age of cheap oil when deamnd will rapidly exceed supply - often known as Peak Oil.
Our current way of life depends on fossil fuels - food, transport, energy, health.....
We have to learn to live differently, and a gentle transition to a low fossil fuel society will be much less traumatic than a sudden collapse.
We want to find positive solutions to Peak Oil and Climate Change rather than succumb to doom and despair.
